How to build your own customized Flat ribbon connector cable using DC3 connectors
Do you remember IDE cables, floppy cables?Do you also remember flat ribbon connectors that were wiring arcade PCBs together?
They all have a common point, they're done with DC3 connectors.
Indeed, industrials were using them everywhere during the 90's because they're reliable, unexpensive and easy to build. But did you know that they're easy to do and cost effective even for an individual ?
The DC3 connectors are self-stripping and so you'll only need 5 minutes and a multi-purpose pliers.
For this example,I've used a 6 pins connector called DC3-6P.
Here are the male and female connectors :
The male connector is easy to operate as it's just a standard 2.54mm pin array; so you can solder it almost everywhere.
We are going to crimp The DC3-6P female connector to the ribbon flat cable .
It's so easy, there is nothing more to say, just follow the pictures :
Done ! you've made your first flat ribbon cable using a DC3 connector in seconds,it's easy isn't it ?
